DAVID SCOOCH - THE INTERVIEW!

When Scooch's David Ducasse felt the time was right to share his story it was inevitable that he'd choose Popplastic - Who else!

When David's EasyScooch Chopper touched down on the rooftop helipad at Popplastic Towers one thing was obvious . . . he'd been on the salted nuts!

PP: Welcome to Popplastic Towers!

PP: OMG! Scooch are back!

PP: Welcome back to the world of Pop! Scooch fans the world over are in pop heaven (though they never stopped believing!) How does it feel to be back?

DD: IT IS GREAT TO BE BACK WORKING WITH THE OTHER 3 AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. WE ALWAYS GENUINELY GOT ON VERY VERY WELL, AND EUROVISION SEEMED THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO COME OUT OF RETIREMENT!

PP: How was that Saturday night? Did you think you’d win? (I had money riding on you!)

DD: MYMU NIGHT WAS MIND BLOWING! IT PROBABLY TOOK ME ABOUT 5 DAYS JUST TO REALISE THAT WE HAD WON. I DIDN'T EXPECT THE NATION TO VOTE FOR US, AND IT MEANS SO MUCH TO HAVE YOUR COUNTRY CHOOSE YOU TO PERFORM ON SUCH AN INTERNATIONAL PLATFORM.

PP: What on Earth went wrong with El Tel (Terry) at Making Your Mind Up, what was going through your minds? How did you feel?

DD: WE GENUINELY BELIEVED CINDI HAD WON - THAT'S WHAT WE WERE TOLD… LIKEWISE SHE WAS TOLD WE HAD WON… IT WAS ALL VERY BIZARRE! THE TV STUDIO WAS EXTREMELY NOISY SO TRYING TO FOCUS ON THE EVENTUAL RESULT WAS NUMBING… IT'S PROBABLY THE BEST MISTAKE THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO US.

PP: How did she take it (Cyndi)?

DD: WE DIDN'T GET TO SEE HER STRAIGHT AFTER THE FINAL PERFORMANCE WE HAD PRESS SHOTS TO DO. I'M SURE SHE WILL BE FINE - SHE HAS A RECORD LABEL AND WILL RELEASE HER MUSIC REGARDLESS OF WINNING, I'D PRESSUME.

PP: We loved the whole trolley-dolly idea for the song and performance, where did the idea come from? Has one of you secretly always wanted to be a trolley-dolly! Is camp back!

DD: I DID CONSIDER WORKING ON AN AIRLINE YEARS AGO - BUT ONLY FOR THE PERKS! THE IDEA CAME FROM PAUL DOMAIN WHO MET WITH US AND THE BBC TO BRAINSTORM OUR PERFORMANCE.

PP: The girls still look fabulous - what’s their secret?

DD: AHEM! WHAT ABOUT US BOYS THANKS VERY MUCH!!

PP: David you are looking as radiant as ever! what's you secret? (Are you still single!!!)

DD: LOL... NO, I HAVEN'T BEEN SINGLE FOR OVER 7 YEARS..AND MY 'RADIANCE' IS PROBABLY CONTENTMENT. I'M IN A GOOD PLACE AND LEAD A BALANCED LIFESTYLE WITH THE LOVE AND SUPPORT OF GOOD FRIENDS AND CLOSE FAMILY.

PP: Was there any truth to the rumours that Nicki French was going to be doing backing vocals for you at MYMU?

DD: SHE WAS GOING TO BE INVOLVED AND ATTENDED A REHEARSAL, BUT FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER IT WAS DECIDED THAT NICKI WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SUPPORT US FOR THE TV SHOW.

PP: What was the atmosphere like backstage? Any gossip!

DD: IT WAS ACTUALLY VERY SUPPORTIVE WHICH MAKES THE ALLEGED NEGATIVE COMMENTS IN THE PRESS FROM THE LIKES OF BIG BROVAZ, JUSTIN AND BRIAN SEEM EVEN MORE BIZARRE??

PP: There must have been some bitching! Did Brian know where he was!

DD: OFCOURSE HE DID! HE WAS VERY HUMBLE ABOUT BEING THERE AND WAS DETERMINED TO DO HIS BEST - WE ALL WERE.

PP: How do you feel about all the snipping and back stabbing that has occured since your victory?

DD: I THINK IT'S HILARIOUS! I AM TAKING SOME OF THE SILLIER STORIES WITH A PINCH OF SALT - THE REACTION FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC I HAVE MET HAS BEEN WARM AND WELCOMING. WE WERE THE VIEWERS CHOICE, AND FEEL HONOURED TO HAVE BEEN CHOSEN.

PP: Who’s idea was it to get back together?

DD: THE WHOLE THING WAS MASTERMINDED BY RUSS… WE ALL WENT ALONG WITH IT NEVER REALLY EXPECTING WE WOULD ACTAULLY BE SHORTLISTED AND ASKED TO TAKE PART IN THE SHOW.

PP: The question we’re all dying to know is … are you going to reform the band beyond Eurovision, and will there be a new album? Is the best yet to come!

DD: FOR NOW OUR FOCUS IS ON EUROVISION. WE HAVE RECORDED OTHER MATERIAL WHICH WE COULD DEVELOP AND EXPAND ON IF RECORDING AN ALBUM BECAME AN OPTION… WHO KNOWS? WATCH THIS SPACE!

PP: Have you been inundated with record deal offers? Any chance of a reunion with Stock and Aitken?

DD: I DOUBT VERY MUCH THE FOUR OF US WOULD EVER WORK WITH STOCK AND AITKEN AGAIN... WE DON'T NEED TO CONSIDER IT AT THE MOMENT AND PERSONALLY I'D BE KEEN TO CONTINUE WORKING WITH THE TEAM BEHIND 'FLYING THE FLAG' BEFORE CALLING UP OTHER PEOPLE.

PP: Everyone remembers where they were when Scooch split up - I heard the news by text in B&Q! It’s one of those JFK moments! Why did you split? What happened?

DD: IN SHORT WE LOST OUR DEAL!!

PP: It isn’t possible to do a Scooch interview without asking “The Question”! Why didn’t you release Maybe Tomorrow? It would have been your Steps/Tragedy moment!

DD: THERE WAS A DISCUSSION TO RELEASE A DOUBLE A SIDE OF 'NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC' WITH ZOOM OR MAYBE TOMORROW.. HOWEVER MANAGEMENT AND RECORD LABEL DECISIONS CHOSE 'FOR SURE'..MAYBE TOMORROW IS ALWAYS REQUESTED WHEN WE'VE PERFORMED LIVE.

PP: In the old days Steps would have been seen as your rivals! Was it handbags at dawn or were you swapping nectar points backstage?

DD: NOT AT ALL! I WAS A HUGE STEPS FAN AND H AND CLAIRE CAME TO SEE US AT A CORPORATE GIG THE DAY 'MORE THAN I NEEDED' GOT TO NO.5... FOLLOWING THAT I ADMIT THEY WERE NOT AS FRIENDLY, ALTHOUGH FAYE AND LEE WERE ALWAYS EXTREMELY POLITE.

PP: Another favourite from the late 90’s here at Popplastic Towers was Lolly! We heard a rumour that Scooch and Lolly were bezzy mates! Is it true? What’s she up to? And what did she keep in her Lolly Pocket? (Weapons of Mass Destruction!)

DD: I DREAD TO THINK WHAT SHE KEPT IN HER POCKET!! SHE WAS A LOVELY GIRL… NATALIE WORKED WITH ANNA (LOLLY) IN STARLIGHT SO THEY HAD A HISTORY... WE ALSO RECORDED 'ZOOM' WITH THE PRODUCTION TEAM BEHIND 'LOLLY'.

PP: I have a couple of messages for you from the fans following your success at MYMU. “Life is wonderful”, “Scooch are gonna win!" and “Pop is back!” Have you got any messages for all the Scoochsters out there? Is it time to get their scoodles out!

DD: SIMPLY THANKYOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT… THE FEEDBACK FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC HAS BEEN OVERWHELMING. EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE HAVING FUN WITH THE SONG - THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN COMING UP AND REPEATING MY SPOKEN LINES HAS BEEN GREAT - EVEN I LAUGH WHEN I HEAR IT.

PP: Are you counting down the days to Eurovision?

DD: SURE..WE'RE AIMING TO MAKE THE PERFORMANCE EVEN BIGGER AND BETTER.

PP: Have you got any surprises in store for the final? (Any skirts being ripped off - What about your trousers David!)

DD: HA, HA! YOU DON'T NEED MY TROUSERS COMING OFF - THEY ARE SO TIGHT YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING - IT'S INDECENT! THE BBC WARDROBE DEPARTMENT MADE MY TROUSERS 2 SIZES TOO SMALL - I SUSPECT FOUL PLAY FROM THE OTHER ACTS!!

PP: What’s your favourite Euro-vis song?

DD: I REALLY LIKED MICHAEL BALL'S 'ONE STEP OUT OF TIME', SAMANTHA JANUS 'A MESSAGE TO YOUR HEART' AND GINA G'S 'OOH, AH JUST A LITTLE BIT'

PP: Finally, are you going to win!

DD: WHO KNOWS?? WE'RE CERTIANLY GOING OVER THERE TO DO OUR VERY BEST… IT'S ABOUT TIME THE UK WON!

Thank you and best of luck for May 12th. We’re all behind you. It’s Scooch For Sure!

Now seems as good a time as any to remind ourselves of the pure pop that is "Flying the Flag" - Davids lines are..., well... classic! and delivered in a style that can only be described as . . .
