EUROVISION, YOUR DECISION!

It's more a case of Eurovision, Popplastic's Decision, or to be more precise Eurovision, Popplastic's Celebrity Panel's Decision!!!

So who's on the panel?

The one and only, Nicki French, David Ducasse (Scooch) and of course Popplastic!

So what's the panel's verdict on the 6 entrants?

Michelle Gayle - Woo, U Make Me

Nicki - SOOOO repetitive, and I’m not sure it’ll work on the night. I’d like to have heard a verse, to know what the rest of the song is like.

David - I really like Michelle's voice. I'm not too sure if this showcases her full potential but it's catchy. I know Morten (he co-wrote Flying The Flag) and Rashelle who wrote it so I'm a little biased!

Popplastic - We're loving this, the wooos are fabulous!

Rob McVeigh - Owe It All To You

Nicki - ok but bland. Instantly forgettable from the clip I heard. Certainly I can’t imagine the rest of Europe going for it.

David - This is a nice vocal, and I'll be interested to hear how he performs it on the show. I think it's a very safe song. I'd probably prefer something a little more up tempo, but that's just my taste and thoughts on a 'Eusrovision' song.

Popplastic - Another good song, it's got a bit of the Westlife about it!

Simona Armstrong - Changes

Nicki - She sounds like she’s on helium! That is a VERY high song – and quite irritating if I’m honest.

David - This sounds like the kind of song you'd expect to hear from other another qualifying country. The vocal reminds me of the LOLLY? From the clip I heard it sounds quite quirky.

Popplastic - We agree we David, it's quirky but in a good way.

LoveShy - Mr Gorgeous

Nicki – Very ‘Girls Aloud’ in sound. Let’s hope they can sing better live!

David - This song is good - definitely the kind of music I enjoy. It sounds like a Girls Aloud/Jamelia song. It's quite catchy and I'd assume will be one of the more visual performances on the night, not sure how great it will sound live though?

Popplastic - It is very Girls Aloud, but doesn't really go anywhere.

Andy Abraham - Even If

Nicki - This is a good feelgood song, and quite lively. It’s quite laid-back though, and I’m not sure it’s hard-hitting enough for the European audience. It might get lost in amongst stronger tunes.

David - Andy has a great voice, and the song is catchy too. If we were going to send a soloist this year I definitely think Andy would give a great vocal. This is probably my favourite of all the solo entries.

Popplastic - Sorry to disagree but it's dull, dull, dull!

The Revelations - It's You

Nicki - I imagine this will come with some sort of quirky choreography, involving lots of arm movements (like Scooch before them)! Definitely the brightest sounding song, and catchy. If they can perform well on the live Final, I think this could be going to Belgrade!

David - Again this sounds quite quirky. It reminds me of a familiar sound..maybe ABBA? I'm not sure if this may be a little dated for the competition.

Popplastic - Fabulous, it's got a 60'd kind of thing going on, really catchy.

So who's going to win, final comments . . .

Nicki - If the Revelations perform well on the live Final, I think this could be going to Belgrade!

David - Andy or Michelle are the safest of the entrants I think..who knows though! We never thought we'd be chosen! Anything can happen.

Popplastic - Oooo, it's got to be the Revelations!!!!! or maybe Michelle or Rob or Simona or . . . .

RENAULT MEGANE SPORT R26

What is it with Popplastic and car ad's!

We just can't get enough of them!

This time it's the Renault Megane advert, the Sport Megane R26 to be precise.

There's just something about the music in car adverts, this time it's Vivaldi's Four Seasons (Summer Mouvement 3: Presto). More Classtastic than Popplastic but we love it!

MELODIFESTIVALEN 2008

It has to be said that Melodifestivalen 2008 just isn't hitting the mark!

This years list of entrants reads like the who's who of Swedish pop but the songs just aren't up to scratch (in the main).

We've had, Sanna Nielsen with Empty room, Andreas Johnson and Carola with One love, Amy Diamond with Thank You, and E-Type and The Poodles with Line of Fire. With the exception of Sanna the rest could at best be described as "B side material". Even Sanna's 2008 effort is hardly what you'd call Vågar du, vågar jag!

The one stand out exception this year so far has been Rongedal's Just a Minute, it's a kind of Scissor sisteresque number and is Popplastic's top MF track of the year so far.

Rongedal - Just a Minute

So it's fingers crossed Linda Bengtzing and BWO deliver the goods . . .

ALCAZAR - WE KEEP ON ROCKIN'

In the week we discovered that the Spice Girls were breaking up again (flags at half mast) it was at least some relief to discover that Alcazar were back!!!

It's not quite the Alcazar of old, they're back with a new look and a new line up. There's even a new girl - Lina Hedlund.

We Keep on Rockin' is the title of the new single which sounds very much like a previous Alcazar single.

Alcazar - We Keep on Rockin'

We Keep on Rockin' - surely that implies a history of rock, maybe We Keep on Poppin' might have been more appropriate . . .

A Number 1 for sure . . .

GIRLS ALOUD - CAN'T SPEAK FRENCH!

We don't care if Girls Aloud can't speak french!!!

They speak fluent pop!

We love the video to the new song . . .

SUPER TUESDAY!

Today may well be Super Tuesday in the USA (come on Hillary) but the United States of Eurovision has just had Super Saturday and Sunday. Last weekend it seemed as if all of Europe was selecting the song that would represent them in Belgrade.

From Denmark to Azerbaijan, citizens of the EBU were phoning in and texting their votes.

So who's been chosing, and what did they chose . . .

Estonia

Kreisiraadio - Leto Svet (Eurovision 2008)

They really shouldn't have bothered, what a lot of old shite! - apart from the accordian/piano bit in the middle reminiscent of some TV show.

Denmark

Simon Mathew - All night long (Eurovision 2008)

Much better, it's got a bit of the Andreas Johnson about it.

Slovenia

Rebeka Dremelj - Vrag Naj Vzame (Eurovision 2008)

Well done Slovenia, a great song. Though nothing could ever beat last years Slovenian entry!

Azerbaijan

Elnur & Samir - Day After Day (Eurovision 2008)

Loving the wings, what more can be said!

Lithuania

Jeronimas Milius - Nomads In The Night (Eurovision 2008)

Not bad, but it looks like it'll be another year without a win for Lithuania.

Vote for Hillary and make it a super dooper Tuesday . . .

SPICE GIRLS - HERE, SPLIT, REFORM AND GONE AGAIN!!!

The Spice Girls have been making "Headlines" again recently!

The Spice Girls are reportedly splitting again and cancelling gigs after infighting. The Girls are said to be splitting for a second time and cutting short their comeback tour after a string of bust-ups fired by the two Mels.

Exhausted by the gruelling schedule, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm told the other three girls: “We’ve had enough.”

Now the band are chopping six dates from their £100million tour, costing them millions in lost earnings and disappointing thousands of fans.

So it's goodbye from the girls, again . . .

Spice Girls - Goodbye

or is it another publicity stunt!

All publicity is good publicity as they say . . .

THE LYNX EFFECT

Hollyoaks recently featured a beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, (E.Y. Harburg, Harold Arlen) it was also featured on the Lynx, Lynx Effect advert. After a bit of Googling and YouTubing we discovered the Hollyoaks/Lynx version was performed by Israel Kamakawiw'ole. Apparently it has also been used in many films including, 50 First Dates and You've Got Mail.

The ad . . .

You Never Know When (The Lynx Effect)

The song . . .

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole- Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Can't imagine him in Hollyoaks!

For a song that has never rated very high on the Popplastic charts, Somewhere Over The Rainbow has undergone a dramatic turnaround in it's fortunes! Not only have we discovered Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version but we've also fallen in love with Shayne Ward's live version from his X-Factor final.

Shayne Ward - Somewhere Over The Rainbow

How wrong we were!

I do like a bit of Lynx Africa . . .
