As predicted by Popplastic Leona Lewis has topped the charts with the biggest week one sales this year. "Bleeding Love" outsold the rest of the top five put together, selling 218,000 copies. She beat Take That's Rule The World into second place and last week's number one, Sugababes' About You Now into fourth.
It's a bit Mariah/Whitneyesque but we love it . . .
Inspired by our love of the recent Vodafone commercial or should that read the music to the Vodafone commercial - Nancy Sinatra's "The End of The Rainbow". We at Popplastic Towers set about compiling a list of some of our favourite ad's (ad's with the best music). So many to choose from . . .
Vodafone (Nancy Sinatra - At The End of A rainbow)
Currently on our screens and getting a massive amount of online interest the current Vodafone ad from the "Time Theft - Make The Most of Now" campaign features Nancy Sinatra's "The End of The Rainbow".
Comfort Creme (Carla Thomas - Comfort Me)
From Comfort Creme's "Do the Moves" campaign, Carla Thomas's "Comfort Me" is available to download from itunes!
Ariston - And On And Ariston
The 1987 Ariston ad (And on, and on, and Ariston) so good we featured the full 2m 30 version. The Ariston ad is apparently loosely based on a piece called Tango by Zbignew Rybzinski.
Ferrero Rocher 2006 (Cilla Black - Something Tells Me)
Surprise Surprise it was Cilla's "Something Tells Me" (Something's Going To Happen) as covered by Emma Bunton that was used by Ferrero Rocher in their 2006 Christmas campaign!
T-Mobile (Röyksopp - So Easy)
Finally T-Mobile's Baby Face campaign of 2002 featured Röyksopp's "So Easy"
OMG! What a pop-a-shocka! While recently tuning into Popplastic's official radio station RADIO SKONTO, we were horrified to discover that Radio Skonto had obviously undergone some type of a make-over, they had clearly made some alterations to their previously very unique playlist, what's more they had attempted to introduce an element of credible music. Listen up Radio Skonto - "If it's not broken . . . .
However after about ten minutes of listening we were very much relieved to discover that they were still playing the old hits, in fact we were particularly pleased to see the introduction of some new top popplastic hits including the No Mercy hit "Where Do You Go" and Shakespears Sister's "Hello".
Keep up the good work Radio Skonto!
Shakespear's Sister - Hello (Turn Your Radio On)
No Mercy - Where Do You Go
Our close shave with radio disappointment highlighted our lack of a back-up radio station so after much surfing of the online radio waves we were more than ecstatic to discover Svenska Favoriter! Within 5 minutes we'd already heard Shirley Clamp's Att älska dig and Magnus Carlsson's Live Forever.
More like OAPplastic than popplastic, but we loved the song on the new Vodafone commercial. After a bit of Googling and YouTubing we discovered it was the Nancy Sinatra "At The End of The Rainbow". Turns out the Vodafone commercial created a bit of a buzz around the song online and everyone else was looking for it too.
Popplastic loved the MacDonald Brothers and now we've discovered another sensational Scottish MacDonald - Amy MacDonald! The 20 year old Scot has been compared to the likes of KT Tunstall and Sandi Thom. L.A. is her latest single taken from her debut album This Is The Life (released on July 2007).
Amy MacDonald - L.A.
Amy Macdonald - This Is The Life
Maybe just a bit of those MacDonald Brothers . . .
Yah SU - Popplastic's gone all Greek! and we've fallen in love with Despina Vandi. After a chance encounter and an ace discovery Popplastic are starting the "Despina for Belgrade 2008 (for Greece) Campaign" And she does apparently have some tenuous Eurovision link, we're just not sure what - answers on a postcard!
Kylie Minogue's first single (2 Hearts) since I Believe in You (2004) has been leaked on to the internet and is spreading like wildfire. It was scheduled to go on sale on November 10 (November 3 as a digital download). 2 Hearts is part of her upcoming album, X, which is scheduled for release on November 24 and will be her 10th studio album.
Geri Halliwell lets slip the top secret name of the new Sice Girl's single.
